The Opportunity

Western Dakota Regional Water System (WDRWS) was formed in 2021 to address the growing water needs of western South Dakota.

The Board of WDRWS invites you to take your seat at the table to discuss the future water needs of your community.

A Proven Resource

South Dakota has had a successful history channeling the plentiful, quality water of the Missouri River into local communities.

The Mni Wiconi, Mid-Dakota Rural Water, WEB Water and the Lewis and Clark Regional Water Systems are already providing Missouri River water to member cities and rural communities in South Dakota, northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota.

A Growing Need

Western South Dakota has grown in population, and is slated to continue to grow in the coming years.

With frequent drought conditions, current water sources are becoming increasingly unsustainable. We could see sharp increases in water rates, extreme conservation measures and a slowing economy.

Cost of Inaction

We have the opportunity to prevent water access challenges for future generations.

Arizona, California and Nevada faced an explosive demand for water. Now, the media frequently features the communities of these states as the victims of water shortages.
