Just Add Water Website Helps Explain West River’s Water Future

The solution to West River’s vulnerability to drought sounds deceptively simple, like instructions on a pancake mix: Just Add Water.

Western Dakota Regional Water System (WDRWS) recently launched a public education website, JustAddWaterSD.org, with a goal of making complex engineering and hydrology information accessible to the average person.

The new site uses easy to understand videos and graphics to outline western South Dakota’s water problem and the proposed solution to bring water from the Missouri River to West River communities. It also includes the weekly South Dakota Drought Monitor map along with a link to the curated WDRWS Water Watch page for those who want to take a deeper dive on drought conditions, forecasts, and regional climate insights.

“We created the Just Add Water site with our friends and neighbors in mind. It makes this complicated issue more digestible to the average person. That is important because we’re all facing this issue together,” says Kristin Conzet, WDRWS Executive Director. The Just Add Water site also offers an opportunity for people to ask questions, subscribe to the quarterly newsletter, contact state and federal representatives to voice their support for WDRWS, or become a member.

Visit JustAddWaterSD.org to check out the new site.

I encourage our members to promote the website to their residents and water utility customers. It’s a great resource.
